AC Shadows Reveals Unexpected AoT Crossover for Holiday Season
In a unexpected collaboration that breaks traditional expectations, the game developer has revealed an virtual crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, offering free additional story content for Shadows players.
Strange Adventure Revealed
According to the official release, "A strange meeting draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where whispers of prohibited practices and fearsome transformations reverberate through the obscurity." The narrative presents a "unusually dressed woman named Ada" who tasks the duo with venturing into the Crystal Cave—a key location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her ally from a hidden cult.
The adventure centers on "peculiar tests and a monstrous enemy" and is available to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.
Familiar Places and Transformations
The trailer highlights the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This important location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The trailer ends with a striking scene showing a character, presumably the hostage, transforming into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.
Exclusive Prizes and Additional Material
Players who successfully complete the quest will obtain an exclusive katana together with numerous objects hidden throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also includes purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, offering:
- Titan-inspired costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa attire for Naoe
- Unique weapons
- Survey Corps mount
Third Free Story Addition
This release also brings the game's third free story addition, titled "A Puzzlement." This humorous quest pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange signature skills: Naoe introduces a theatrical variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters subduing stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.
Past Japanese Animation Collaborations
This represents scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with famous anime series. The series formerly featured a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla informally included a quest that clearly echoed the well-known series One-Punch Man.
