Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future following a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Response
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a phase like this with results like these.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
