Brian Eno Calls On Support to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to propel a cultural melody to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign aims to send support to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It has a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded following a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the rendition was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of artists contributing to Lullaby includes a group of well-known figures from the scene. All participated in the September show, which successfully generated a significant sum for relief efforts.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a team of talented individuals. The single features a fusion of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The team running the initiative have clarified that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a spokesperson said. “We aim for whatever we can get. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the territory was noted for its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of infrastructure described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is above all making this cause better known and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from mid-December.
