Followers Urge Arrest of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are urging that a man who breached a barrier and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video reveals the Australian man pushing past photographers and charging at Grande while the actors walked down a event pathway accompanied by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the event by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "released after being detained", though court documents indicated that he was due to be present on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Record of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram profile contains videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last December.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Many fans blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed experiencing PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further message on Instagram.
A number of attendees also criticised security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some demanded digital services to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande looked surprised when she was touched by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of attendees had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The film, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a dual version of the well-known stage musical Wicked, which focuses on the surprising bond between two contrasting witches.
The musical itself is a derivative of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning film of the previous year in the UK, and scored ten Academy Award nods, winning two for best costume and set decoration.
