Iranian Forces State Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, During Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted areas linked to the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted missile fragments fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
