The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
